About Odessa Oblast

Population – 2,402,000. (Baptist churches – 134 with total of 7,192 members.)
Odesa is a major seaport located on the shore of the Black Sea and the fourth largest city in Ukraine. It borders the Republic of Moldova, Romania, Bulgaria and Turkey on land and sea. There are 135 evangelical churches in the Odesa Oblast. It is historically divided into the Southern part and the Northern part. The southern part has many large and old churches with well-established ministries. The northern part was under atheist domination for many years and evangelical churches got started only in the late 1990’s.
Biggest challenge – there are many nationalities living in Odessa Oblast with their own languages and traditions. There are whole villages of Moldavans, Bulgarians, Romanians, Gagauz, Russians and Ukrainians.
