Nothing special?

“Nothing special…” That’s what the Tomorrow Club leaders answered when asked if there were some stories they could share from their club. It didn’t take long to discover that this Tomorrow Club was indeed very special.

To start with, this club is operating in Mlachivka, one of a few small villages just outside the radiation contaminated area surrounding the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant where the catastrophic nuclear accident occurred in 1986.

The pastor of the evangelical church in Mlachivka is a former alcoholic whose life was transformed when he came to Christ. The pastor of the evangelical church in Mlachivka is a former alcoholic whose life was transformed when he came to Christ. Now a respected member of the community, he goes around to surrounding villages every Saturday, loading kids in his van to bring them to the Tomorrow Club. Amazingly, this small church is reaching as many as 100 kids from the area through the Tomorrow Club! On the day we visited, the church was packed with kids singing, hearing Bible lessons, and reciting scripture.

Many lives in this forsaken community have been impacted by the Tomorrow Club, but one story we heard stands out. A 16-year-old girl, Sveta, from an unbelieving family started coming to the club about three years ago. Sveta and her MumSveta shared what she was learning at the club with her mother who then started coming to the church and is now following Jesus. Sveta brought her brother and two neighbor friends to the club. The mother of her friends, seeing the change in the lives of her children, began coming to the church and was recently baptized. What a joy to see the transforming power of the Gospel at work in five lives through the testimony of this young girl!

Please take a few minutes to watch the video for a firsthand look at how this very special Tomorrow Club is helping the church in Mlachivka grow!
